Shiatsu-Anma Therapy
Shiatsu therapy has reserved its powerful therapeutic value along with acupuncture in the US massage field since 1970. This eastern origin energetic medicine has gained an important role in holistic medicine for issues such as sports injuries and every day common complaints.
I will be teaching Shiatsu Anma Therapy Intro at IPSB in May and July. This will be a first great step to also master the KATA Sequence of DoAnn’s Long form (Anma) and Short form (Shiatsu). Shiatsu-Anma therapy is one of the most effective ways to manage every day increasing stress. Your clients will love all the techniques. You will focus on understanding the basic skills, theory, techniques to support your clients. Then learn and practice various techniques on massage tables that can be integrated into other modalities or be practiced on their own. Emphasis will be given on self practice, sensing body conditions, correct bodywork and simplicity in understanding the body. If students prefer to pay the total in smaller increments, they can contact IPSB and set this up. They would just need to have their final payment made by the first day of class.

Qigong & Daoyin
Mondays, July 15 – August 19 (6 weeks)
Two Qigong styles will be taught: Baduanjin with 8 silk movements that stretch the extremities, spine, and meridians, and Tree Qigong stances, which are gentle but transformational with vigorous abdominal breathing.
Daoyin is a form of exercise to generate the chi energy and blood flow to vital organs. Daoyin stimulates the vital points and meridians in order to clean the stagnation of the various systems, vitalize the tissues and improve the circulation on a cellular level. Dr. Kaneko also incoporates a focus on building a strong faith in the body’s own healing process. For Daoyin, 15 movements that utilize the pressure points and abdominal breath will be taught.
Handouts will be supplied, and additional teaching material is available upon request. Yoga mat, or something to comfortably sit or lie on required. Students must pre-register online for the series. Meditation & Breathing
Mondays, July 15 – August 19 (6 weeks)
Students will learn 6 meditations from the very basic to the advanced. Dr. Kaneko’s meditation style is based on a traditional Taoist style that he customized for an easier and more practical approach.
It involves lying on the back or sitting, and even some standing or walking. He teaches the concept of the Qi and Blood moving into the cellular level through the meridians and channels, with the help of powerful abdominal breathing. Students will be able to apply this method for stress management and relaxation.

Music Hands & Monkey Business
Saturdays, July 20 – August 24 (6 weeks)
These are child-parent activities. For Music Hands, children will learn a different tapping technique on their parents for each day of the week, that will be practiced with song. This activity, based on a Japanese tradition, is a practical and hands-on method to cultivate empathy, kindness and humility in children.
Music Hands is also a great family bonding exercise. Then with Monkey Business, children and parents will also learn 5 monkey mimicking exercises, each with a different laugh, that include jumping and rolling on the ground. Laughter, which causes the release of natural hormones, such as endorphins and oxytocin, help children and adults relax, feel happy and create positive relationships with those around them.

Today’s Pressure Point

You don’t want to overlook this amazing pressure point! This point is one of the most commonly used pressure points for female issues. Since this is a meeting point of the three Yin Channels of the foot, this point offers multiple benefits such as the following:
*Strengthens the spleen
*Resolves Dampness
*Promotes the smooth flow of Liver Qi
*Nourishes, invigorates, removes and cools the Blood
*Strengthens the Kidneys
*Regulates urination and menstruation
*Stops uro – genital pains
*Helps reproductive functions
It is amazingly powerful and covers a wide area. Remember it and use it in your everyday needs. Other TCM textbooks also mention it covers insomnia, dizziness, headaches, pain and weakness of the lower extremities.
How to Use It
There are a couple techniques:
1. Apply 3 – 5 second, 90 degree pressure, 3 – 5 times to release tension and stagnation
2. Apply 5 – 7 seconds using friction, 3 – 5 times to promote more circulation and strengthen it. You may want to apply warm fingers or hands, or use moxibustion, an infrared lamp or hair dryer.
3. For complex and chronic issues, apply # 2 then # 1.
